In vietnamese marriage history, the day of the wedding is considered the end of a new book in a woman’s life and is marked by many symbolic rites. Some of them are based on old beliefs and others are influenced by Confucian and Buddhist beliefs.

For instance, before the service, the groom’s household may attend the princess’s families and inquire for their permission to take the female absent. The groom’s representatives will provide gifts in special boxes adorned with red linen: betel leaves and areca palm grapes, cakes and jewels for the wedding, as well as a fried piglet to reflect good fortune for the couple.

Typically, prior- arranged relationships in Vietnam were prevalent as they allowed families to pool resources and protect their assets. Nowadays, this practice is n’t as widespread, however, arranged relationships also play an important role in Vietnamese world. On the day of the wedding, the newlyweds will wear their ao dai ( traditional dresses for women ) and suits for men. They will also wearing matching jewelry and a plant king.

The most important celebration of the day is the Drink and Candle Ceremony, which is both a proper appointment between two people as well as a way to honor the lovers’ mothers and ancestors. The newlyweds will serve Green Tea or Chrysanthemum Tea to their guests meet vietnamese woman, starting with the oldest members of the family. They will then receive money and jewelry from the guests as a way to show their appreciation. The ceremony ends with the lighting of a Dragon and Phoenix candle to officially symbolise the fusion of families.
